Do you mean the frame counter is never locking at frame 1, then through each frame to the end?

Since you already own an automat, I assume that you are threading the film between the two rollers on the bottom. If you are doing this, then its likely the camera needs an adjustment to the film feeler mechanism.

Thank you. This may be the problem. I found that I didn't have the film between the two rolers but over both. Yes the film doesn't lock.

Hello everyone,
I have a film transport related question/problem with my "new" (actually 1970ish german model has not been used for decades) Rollei 35.

When inserting the film and then "turning the flange in the direction as long as it can be turned" (cited from manual), the flange can actually be turned forever, thus making it hard to tell when the film has been sufficiently rolled up to close the camera and start shooting.

When no film is inserted on the other hand, the little sprocket teeth actually DO stop after a couple of rotations of the flange.

What is the problem here and can/does it have to be fixed in order to be able to use the camera properly?

P.S.: Please do not advise me to just have a CLA and be done with it, I am still testing the camera and will only spend € 100+ on repairs/calibrations if I have to, since I am only a poor student

Hmmmm, did you move ( = swing) the rewind-release lever between tests with and without film?

Anyway, don't bother too much, just turn a bit so you can tell the film does get caught safely and the film taken out of the cartridge is not buckling any more. As soon as you use the camera more often (or exercise with a test film), you will get a good feel for it.

No, that leaver was in the correct position all the time (in the "not rewinding" position that is) so this should not be the cause for the free-wheeling.
The camera also had some issue with not advancing the film and the picture counter after shooting pictures and reloading until I turned the rewind crank a little bit and "fastened" the film inside.
Since I am new to all of this it could either be a problem with the camera, the film (both being kinda old) or my stupidity (me being kinda young ).

Thanks for the help in any case, guess I will just have to try around a little and get to know the camera a little better, we will see what the first pictures say...
