Old Standard Rolleiflex Lens Cap - How does it stay on?

Postby Sam » Thu Nov 07, 2013 1:51 am

I have just bought an 'Old Standard Rolleiflex' but I cannot see how the lens cover stays on. The cap is the correct type but it only sits on, or falls off when the camera is tilted.

Is the little 'stud' between the lenses supposed to be spring loaded?

Isn't the stud split? So it can be bent apart a bit and hold the lens cap ...

(Oooops! "You cannot make another post so soon after your last." Jaap, why?)

Jan reason for that not soon posting after each other is a new setting I yet have to discover. Sort of built in protection I assume.
I will PM you as well.

Thanks Jan.

I hesitate to bend the stud partly because I fear causing damage and I cannot see how it would have got bent the wrong way in the first place. Have you actually bent one of these studs yourself?

Have others experienced this problem?

Hope we're talking about the same camera ... this one?

The stud is a) hollw and b) cut twice at an angle of 90° ... so, with a thin and sharp knife you may slide into those cuts and caaaaaaarefully bend the segments outwards, just a teeny bit.

What have you got to lose? ;-) A non working lens cap holder stut vs. a broken off lens cap holder stud.

Otherwise you'd have to reduce the diameter of the hole in the lens cap ... I guess your cap is brass, so you may solder some steel or brass washer to it with the proper diameter hole (naaaaah!).

Yes Jan, my camera is very similar but older.Very good pictures too.

I am using an elastic band to hold the lens cap on at present - not at all pretty but it works. I am giving careful consideration to having a go with a sharp knife when I summon up enough courage. I will let you know how it goes.
