The Swiss watch is marked Rollei on the dial and case-back. The hang-tag and boxes are marked Rollei. And I cannot find a mention of it anywhere . . .

It appears to be a promotional watch made for Rollei, and the watch features a 6 jewel Swiss ETA Calibre 255 quartz module.

The most interesing aspect is the marking on the case-back:

With the Compliments of Kun-Hee Lee Chairman The Samsung Group

If anyone has a clue I'd like to hear it.

Thanks . . .

I've seen similar watches before ...

in some places of the world Samsung dared to distribute them with the "Rollei"-writing, in others they feared the Swiss watch maker Rolex and just wrote "R".

Was there any relationship between Samsung and Rollei?

If there was, I don't believe Rolex would be concerned.

It's not as if the watches in question came even close to approximating Rolex products . . .

and they are well known complainers when it comes to their brand name etc..

In my searches I came upon a Rollei time line that shows . .

. . . Samsung owing Rollei between 1992 and 1998, which gives a window on when the watch was probably made.

The questions remaining for me are:

1) Who made the watch, and

2) Why is there a dedication from the Chairman of Samsung on the case-back.

My instinct tells me the one I've got wasn't sold retail, but rather it was a promotional award, possibly to a Rollei dealer or sales person . .
