What Rollei do I have?

Postby George L » Sun Mar 25, 2007 1:44 pm

I have a Rolleiflex, SN 1,859,6xx, I bought it new probably in the late 1950's. I am planning to sell it as I haven't used it for many years, but I cannot figure out it's model. It has the Heidesmat 2.8 view lens and a Schneider-Kreuznach 3.5 Xenotar take lens, both of the same size (probably bayonet 2). The lens hood says Telesar Japan and fits both lens.
It has no meter, and the SN is on the top above `Rolleiflex`. An archive file I found through Google at rolleiclub.com says this SN is a 3.5C, but my memory thinks it is a 3.5G. And according to the entry, the 3.5C had a bayonet 3 view lens, and a bayonet 2 take lens. Can anyone identify this camera for me?

Here's a serial number list: http://home.worldonline.dk/rongsted/Rolleisn.htm Different 'experts' use different terms when referring to Rolleiflex model designations. My 3.5E is Serial No. 1866xxx (Planar) and, according to those same experts, should have a meter. It doesn't. Some price info: http://members.aol.com/dcolucci/rolleitlr.htm

Hello George,

you have a Rolleiflex 3,5C. Built between April 1957 and February 1959.
All above 17.000 pieces.

A Rolleiflex 3,5G was never built (3,5A, 3,5B, 3,5C, 3,5F, 3,5E2, 3,5E3).
At any camera both bayonets were always the same size.
There was no camera that has a bayonet III on the viewing lens and a bayonet II on the taking lens.

Regards

Hi George: (Ref: Parker) Serial numbers 1,850,000 thru 1,868,999 represent a Rolleiflex 3.5 E (type 2). The type 2 was a later version that appeared in 1958 and did not have an exposure meter. Type 1's did have a meter.

Rolleiflex 3.5 E type 2 and
Rolleiflex 3.5 E2

are different models.
