Is there any proof that there were Automats on the market with a 3.5 Planar or Xenotar installed.

Could the existence of these cameras mean they were after market upgrades - maybe done by the Rollei factory?

I'd have to see such a camera to make any judgement.

Up to now I doubt Rollei (or better Franke & Heidecke) produced such cameras or pimped old Automats. (*)

Naturally it is possible the first trials with a Planar or Xenotar lens were made in old camera bodies.

*: Come to think about it: Can we agree that a Rolleiflex 3,5B is no Automat?

Well this one seems to be not a 3.5B but - I guess an Automat 4 - and with a (looking at the serial) contemporary Planar:

I'd call that a "Rolleiflex 3,5A" and it does have a Planar but should have a Tessar lens

What a nice surprise!

I think it is quite a rare find, but not mine (at least not yet )
