Everything is in the title,
I would like to know the optical quality of the old rollei wide. Is it worth putting money in it, or a good 500C/M with Distagon 50 is a far better choice to make wide angle in square medium format?
Many thanks,

| The optical quality will be the same. It is more a question of which camera do you want to use. If you are sure you will be happy with just the one lens then the Rollei is a more simple system. |

My experience with Distagon 4/50 on SL 66 and SLX-6008 compared to the 4/55 of the wideangle Rolleiflex: The 4/50 is way better. Sorry to tell this and yes, I just have one (1) wideangle Rolleiflex ... so maybe it is a problem of my individual camera. But I have used several 4/50 from early non-HFT SL 66 to late PQ for 6008.
Best,

That was a surprise. I would think that the twin lens design better as the design need not cater for the reflex mirror. _________________ Contax RTS III / Aria - Rolleiflex 3003 / SL66 - Rollei 35 RF / Voigtlander R4M // Zeiss T* / HFT / ZM |

Two thoughts:
a) as I mentioned: I have tested only one wide-angle-Rolleilflex, feel free to send me more.
b) the SLRs' Distagon 4/50 was designed some years later than the TLR's 4/55
