Counter always zero!

Hello everyone,

I am new to Rolleiflex and found a 3,5F on a fleamarket. Since 40 years I dreamt having a TLR from Rollei.

But now I found that the old lady does not work well. It seems to me as if the lever which is at the bottom to "rezero" the counter after closing the back, should swing back but does not. It is pushed permanently and so the transport does not lock and I do not know when to stop transporting the film. Is there anbody who can give me an advice?

You have tried with film? Are you sure the auto feeler roller is working?
Did you thread the film leader under the first roller before going over the second and third rollers. The film must go under the very first roller because it is the auto feeler that tells the camera there is film in.
Otherwise take the old gentleman to get serviced.

yes I did all you wrote. I found another forum and a thread. The post is describing that one may adjust the feeler roll, but it's difficult.

I have had luck, I tried to move the feeler sometimes and tried it with some paper. Now it works.

Ah good, at least you know that it is the feeler roller. I shoot a lot of ACROS film in my 2.8F and the ACROS has such thin tape that the feeler roller in my camera often doesn't find it. I very carefully put one layer of masking tape around my feeler roller and now it always works. You might try that if it gives you more trouble.

By the way, I heard of the Rolleikin set to use 24x36 film but those are in a capsule and without paper on the back.
1. How could the counter work with those films?
2. Do you need to pull them out of the housing and roll it on the Rolleikin bobin?

The Rolleikin-set includes "some parts", one of the parts helps to fit the 135-cartridge to the camera and does "tell" the film feeling mechanism "ready".

Thank you, that's genious, but I think a little over engineered and the counter and lock, too because ....

My former problem is back. I tried a slide film (120) with the hint of DPurdy to use a tape around the film feeler. At first the counter was "0" but after moving the lever it becomes "9"???? Without the tape it stays "0".

You cannot work with a 3.5F without the counter and the lock between the exposures. I am really becoming mad about it.

Just fix / "adjust" the film feeler mechanism - or get it fixed and tell the mechanic, what your favorite films are (or even better give him spamples). Personally I would not go for tape around the roller as a solution, but maybe that's the only chance to have it easily adjusted to work for Velvia and Across ...

Finally I found the fault: the upper roll of the film feeler was not fixed, the screw is out of the little bearing for the roll. I made a sketch (the image url does not work because of "forbidden words" message, the url is

As far as I remember, you'll have to take off (peel of carefully) the leather/letherette, crank and strap-lugs and remove the camera's right side panel to get access to the film feeler mechanism. All other "shortcuts" I can think of will need magic or nano-mechanics.

You may try to unscrew the mechanism from the bottom of the open camera, but I fear you'll end up opening the right side anyway (at least to adjust the mechanism).

I had been afraid I had to, because I do not know how to fix the leather after repairing the camera. I fixed it by picking all parts together without screwing them and put some tape between screw and right side to fix it, until now. At the moment everything works fine. I only have to take care that the tape will be in place.

Reading "Dortmund", an easy solution to reglue the leather / letherette is "Pattex" or "Uhu". Just take care when peeling it off.

Yes it is "Dortmund" calling and "Hummel, Hummel" to "Hamburg". It is confusing writing English to a German forum member.

I tried to fix the bottom leather with Pattex and it was a mess. There have been "hills and valleys". It takes 3 times to get it in an ordinary manner.
