Possible battery voltage fix for the Rollei 35SE/TE/LED

Getting a battery with the correct 5.6 voltage is much harder with the 35SE compared to the 1.35v on the 35S. Although there exists the C.R.I.S adapter taking four(4) silver oxide button cells that replace the 5.6v PX-27 mercury cell, those button cells are nominally 1.55v ea. resulting in a measured combined voltage of 6.2v. There are no batteries in that size of lesser voltage to attenuate the voltage to 5.6v. However, you can get almost exactly 5.6v by combining one LRB44 (1.35v), two MRB 400 (1.35v ea.) and one SR43 (1.55v) cell. The dimensions of all four batteries combined fit almost perfectly into the C.R.I.S. adapter. The catch is that the three 1.35v cells are Weincells and the 1.55v cell is silver oxide so the battery chemistry is different.

Additionally, the replacement silver oxide PX-27 battery currently sold, is rated at 6v but delivers about 6.2v. I also found that when used on my camera, the battery pooped out after a roll or two, possibly due to poor mAh capacity. The C.R.I.S. adapter with the SR43 cells has a decent life so far.

After trying the above combination in a C.R.I.S. PX27 adapter, measured voltage was 5.8v but meter readings were not significantly different. The LEDs were also a little less bright and dimmed with extended shooting. This then tells me the bridge circuit of the SE compensates for the higher voltage and efforts to reduce the voltage to 5.6v are not worth the extra effort. Therefore, using four SR 1.55v silver oxide cell in the PX27 adapter will suffice.

The 6v silver oxide battery replacement (Exell brand was recently discontinued despite it being pictured in the ad) actually measures 6.2v and was covered in my second post on this topic. It doesn't work well as it had a very short life in my camera. The C.R.I.S. PX27 adapter works much better using four SR43 silver oxide batteries by having a much longer battery life.

OK. My C.R.I.S. adapter to transform the 386 battery to 1.35 v (for my 35S) works fine too until now. I was told the 386 battery will last for about a year. Let us see. I am not using the 1.35 v Wein Cell any more. Though the C.R.I.S. adapter is expensive at around $40 I hope it works out cheaper in the long run (the widely available silver oxide 386 battery is only about $1 or so). Krimar Photo wanted to re-calibrate the 35S to take a 1.5 volt Varta alkaline battery instead but I declined since many people advised me never to use any 1.5 volt battery in the 35S and definitely not an alkaline battery. I hope I did the right thing. But I do not think Mr. Maralian even bothered to check and adjust the exposure meter. I hope the exposure meter is reasonably accurate. It does follow the "sunny 16" rule and the photos I have taken so far in both black and white (ISO400) and color (ISO100) turned out OK.

Just use a "6V" PX27A or four AG12 (plus some mechanical help to keep them in place andaid the contact) and ignore the difference in voltage (as does your camera's light meter!).

Yes, PX27A don't last that long, but that is called "progress".

Hi just got out my Rollei SE after some time not using , Thing is have put in 4 new AG12 and just get one red light showing or two red lights/ but no green light , Any ideas or help please . Thank you ,

Two red lights is "out of range" (usually too dark - or broken meter

So, set film speed to 21DIN / ASA 100, get bright daylight and expect something like 1/125s with f-stop something between 5,6 and 16. On a dull day something like 1/60s and f4.

If you still don't get any plausible reading, my guess is the filter-disk (to adjust the light reaching the CdS-cell) is out of aligntment, or the CdS-cell is dead.

Jan thank you for your reply/ will try will a PX27A see what happens ? Thing is was working very well last time I had used it with a PX 27 mercury Battery , That was about 2 years ago ,
I really hope to get her working as she a little GEM of a camera if not just use it with out a battey , Still be nice to use her with all charms .
