An SL66 is a major Christmas present to myself. It came w/ manual, WLF, and the 80mm and 150mm lenses, all in aluminum case. Added a 45-degree prism finder.
Would love to add a WA, preferably the 40mm (even though it complicates filters). Could someone please comment on lens interchangeability? Which later lens series will work? Tips for getting started w/ this camera?
Have been shooting film only: Nikons and Leica-M.
All comments welcome. |

What an exceptional present for christmas
I assume you have the classic black/chrome version,
not one of the later models. If this is the case, all lenses will work.
The later lens-versions have an "e-ring-coupler" for metering. They will work on the classic-SL66 but you wonīt need the metering-feature.
Make sure to buy a HFT-coated version when choosing a WA-lens.
The 40mm is an impressive piece of glass, but the 50mm goes for lower price und filters are not that expensive as for the 40mm.

Thank you, Benjamin.
Mine is black and chrome. I wondered if SLX lenses would also work on this, or only SL66 lenses? I have read that multi-coating is much more important on WA lenses. For now, I thought the progression: 40, 80, 150mm would be adequate, but wonder if the 50 (reversed) might be needed for closeup/macro work?

Andy,
the SLX lenses wonīt work because their shutter and aperture is operated electronically. The 50/4 isnīt the best lens for macro. It has a poorer quality in the close focus range and if mounted reversed, itīs angle narrows somehow. It is right that HFT is most important with wide-angle lenses. For the longer lenses, the lens shade or the compendium are useful investments.
