| My wife and I were on holiday in Boston in July past. As usual, we brought a selection of cameras, as tourists do; a digital SLR and a 35mm film SLR each. We both still enjoy our manual film cameras. Anyway, July 4th parade, we mingle with the hundreds of other camera toting tourists and Bostonians, and what do I spy among all the 'all singing all dancing' electronic whatevers - one guy using a Rolleiflex T. Nice one, whoever you are. |

Why is it that when someone starts talking about having millions of megapixels I always step back fearing to be infected by a virus? Never had that with film.

| I just like the experience at times of painting the picture with a brick instead of a silicon chip, not that there's anything wrong with current technology, nor would I ever give up my Canon eos kit; invested too much in it anyway. |

Hi,
isn't it beautiful to look through the viewfinder, see a real picture, determine your settings, based on the lightmeter and your own experience. Then you think, should I go one stop up or down, where is the part of the image that has to be exposed properly? Where is the point of interest for focusing? Then you trigger the shutter.
When the film is returned from the lab, you look at your slides and you are disappointed or happy. Don't forget to bracket. Film is cheap!
For me it is film. I love the results, the challenges, the uncertainty. Because it demands knowledge and thinking. You are not on cruise control and you are not watching TV, where everything is presented to you, no thinking required!
Good light!

My ancient SL66 is still alive and well and clicking in Maine. When I want portability and handholdability, I use my Mamiya 7. When I have time to slow down and use a tripod, my SL66 is still a pleasure to use. And it has interchangeable backs! |

Please don't get feared and nervous, and work "hybrid" with film and flatbedscanners! Don't sell your good masterpieces and lenses for bargain!
ROLLEI/MACO is selling a C41 ROLLEI SCANFILM which you should try out with ISO 200! The unmasked film is excellent for the scanning process, and with the chemical C41 process, you can select between excellent B&W or color prints from it. Works perfect! Check the website: www.mahn.net for distributors in your country!

Hi Larry,
of course, I've used this film very successfully. The unmask film must be exposed with ISO 200 instead of ISO 400, and be processed in C41, and can be printed either on any B&W paper, or as color prints.
The sames film is also as ROLLEI DIGIBASE 200 PRO in 35mm available.
To get good results, it is recommended not to get it processed in any no-name film labs. The film needs C41 pro lab processing.

Two days ago, there was a heavy weight transport of the Russian copy (Buran) of the US. space shuttle on a bark on the Rhine river. Thousands of people were watching the Buran which was transported into a museum for technics in Sinsheim near Speyer in Rheinland-Pfalz.
I've shoot a roll of 120 ROLLEI Digibase 200 pro and got it C41 processed within a day.
I've scanned the roll film perfectly in B&W and Color, with my flatbed Canon 8600F, and have now the possibility to order prints on traditional B&W paper or on color paper with an excellent high quality, just as I like it. So, I don't need any costly digital back for my medium format cameras! Just perfect!
Cheers,
